While trolling ebay motors for malaise era GM B-bodies, I came across this 88 Buick Electra Estate that the seller describes as a "survivor" and a "garage find purchase." Now, I admit that these aren't commonly found on the street anymore (at least in Chicago), but can you really call a 25 year old car a survivor?

$1,500 final offer. I'd also like to know how old those tires are.

Exaggeration as far as the "survivor" line goes. Sounds like an over zealous salesman's pitch to me. Also, Family Truckster.

Why not? Number one qualification to be a survivor; the car hasn't received a complete overhaul. It's not exactly the kind of car from that era that you expect to be meticulously maintained, babied, and preserved like a BMW 850. Nor is it a car you expect to be modified like fox body Mustang. And when you consider it is from Michigan and not a nicer climate like Texas, it could certainly have rusted away by now. So when you find one in nice original shape, I guess it survived in the sense that it wasn't forgotten and overlooked in favor of something more "worth" the time to keep up.

As for the white walls, I tried finding white walls for my 92 Grand Marquis in the larger optional "police size" they used on Crown Victorias. No luck. That larger size is now considered a light truck size these days, and thus, black wall or white letter. And white letter tires would look way too... um, "ethnic" on any older big American land yacht.

Average 25 year old car? Not a survivor.

25 year old/malaise era GM anything? Most definitely a survivor.
